The BEST book that I have ever read on the damage that a severe narcissist does within a partnership, or marriage, and forever more.. The damage is vested not only on the spouse, but also the children. The narcissist sees all through special filters,.......ALL is about themselves and their wants and needs!It is a book about people, men and women that have narcissistic personality disorder..and the pain and abuse that they leave in their wake after a relationship ends..They are charmers, charismatic, manipulators, and liars. They behave as if the children are extensions of themselves. How could a child possibly need glasses? The narcissist never had glasses. They rarely cooperate with any parenting plan, support payments or visitation. Many times they try to alienate the other parent by bad mouthing them to the child. Then, when the child refuses to participate in this action the narcissist says the other parent is trying to alienate THEM!They dupe therapists, custody evaluators, lawyers, and judges and tie up courts needlessly.You will learn how "The Best Interests Of The Child"are NOT met.Because of an antiquated family court system that stands on the belief thatparenting time should remain equal, courts do not readily change parenting times. or custody.....and in most States, children are not even allowed to make known what they want.This is a wonderful book of survival!"Tina Swithin", The author, has written a book that helps people to understand what HAS and IS happening to them. This type of narcissist is crazy making. I have read all of Tina's books. Before you even look at these reviews, know that father's rights groups come on Amazon and on her one mom's battle page and belittle and harass this woman. She has done so much for people that have gone through bad divorces and custody battles. That being said, Dr. Malkin is a guest post in her book which is awesome he is a knowlegable man. This book helps you decipher the Narcissist behavior. I love that when you are reading it, there is no down playing of what a Narcissist is or how they behave. You read her book sitting there going YES! that is so and so. I love how down to earth and realistic is, because we are able to understand now through her books that Narcissists abuse their victims and family court systems need to WAKE UP.

The best thing about this book? It confirmed that for me and my children, staying with the N was my best strategy and safest for my children. I have 2 special needs children who would have shriveled under the legal onslaught. The N had really lost interest in parenting "defectives" and was only a visitor to the family. This gave me the opportunity to provide the best care that I could with minimal sabotaging from N. The children are grown and functioning well as adults. If I had tried to divorce him, all hell would have broken out and it would have been my children who sustained the most damage.

I had only a slight understanding of who I'm dealing with, until I read this book. I almost fell out of my chair several times because she was describing my soon-to-be ex husband to a tee! I have recited things advised to say & have reminded myself of many tips as I navigate this treacherous territory. I don't know if I'll ever be as blessed as Tina, but I have a little bit of hope. Buying One Mom's Battle, too!

I would recommend this book as well as Tina's first book One Mom's Battle. If you've been with anyone with NPD (narcissistic personality disorder) or just think they might be someone with NPD: YOU NEED HELP! Divorce puts everyone involved in a fog and you CAN NOT afford to be in a fog with that "special someone". YOUR KIDS LIVES are at stake, their safety, emotional stability and security, their future spouses- it's up to YOU to get them as safe as you possibly can and the courts and Social Services just don't get what you're going through- they're overburdened and sadly, most just want your case to be done. Since Tina went pro se (no divorce attorney) most of the time, she knows the ins and outs and actually faced off with a judge who ignored her STBX's (soon to be exes) lies! I Cheered outloud! I know you're tired, burnt out and just ready to be done but read this book first. If someone you're married to is willing to treat you like dirt, your kids like pawns during your marriage- it's going to be a helluva battle to divorce them and you have support with these books as well as Tina's website and face book page. Google One Mom's Battle- ask questions, don't give up and know that God loves you and loathes what has happened to you. He wants you and your kids to be safe but you have to help Him out! RESEARCH! I also recommend Cindy Burrells books "why is he so mean to me" and "God is My Witness- making a case for biblical divorce". Hang in there- you can do it.

This book, as well as Tina's first, helped me through the darkest, scariest phase of my life. It is a lonely and hellish journey trying to protect your child from a narcissistic, abusive parent and navigating the broken court system can be equally as soul destroying. Tina's book spoke to me like a true friend. It empowered, educated and comforted me, and gave me invaluable tools to help cope with my ex-partner's constant attacks and the challenges of court hearings. This book, and Tina's others, were lights in an otherwise pitch black cave I thought I would never get out of. I cannot recommend these books highly enough - 5 stars just aren't enough!
